ALMS - Dyson can't hang on in LMP, Lizard's emerge victorious in GT

In what was a very up and down race for many teams, Dyson couldn't hang on for the overall win, allowing Highcroft to nab the overall honors at this past weekend's 6 hours of Monterey.
A blown oil filter was the culprit, but Dyson shouldn't feel too bad...they ran an excellent race and the little Lola showed some serious speed from the turbo 4-cylinder. Other notable performances include the Intersport Lola AER, which had power to spare, but not the reliability to match it. Still Clint Field put on a heck of a performance...it was almost enough to make it seem like the glory days of IMSA with independent teams, turbo power and a lot of excitement.

GT was a fierce battle, with nearly every car and manufacturer running in the lead for at least a portion of the 6 hours, but it was the #45 Porsche 911 RSR from Flying Lizard which finally took the victory. No small feat, considering the competition and their qualifying position. Sadly Falken Tire could not do the same, and struggled to find pace all weekend.

Black Swan Racing took the win in GTC, leading from class pole all the way to the end in what was only their second GTC start this year. It looks like Tim Pappas may have made the right call in ducking out from GT2 at Sebring into the slightly-less intense GTC class, as I can't see anything but the back of the pack for any team which doesn't have huge funding, huge luck and huge driving talent in the seat at all times.

There may be hope for sports car racing in the USA still...

  1. It's a shame that I was never able to log in to watch the race this past weekend. I will be watching this upcoming weekend even though I know the outcome already.
