You can stumble onto the strangest things in New York

Mercedes AMG DTM - Di Resta's car in NYC

This past Saturday my wife and I were going to see a friend's band play a show, and we got done with dinner a bit early so we decided to stroll around a bit and work off a few calories before hitting the bar. If there's one thing I've learned after living in NYC the past 6 years it's that you can pretty much expect to see anything at anytime. Crazy people, famous people, rare cars, expensive cars, pretty much anything is possible at any time. There are certain things you do not ever really expect however, and seeing the 2010 Championship DTM AMG C Class Mercedes sitting alone in a giant and unfinished new dealership is certainly one of those things. So when we happened upon this only-in-New York scene, naturally I decided to take some pictures....

12 Hours of Sebring 2011, Wed-->Thurs

 12 hours of Sebring 2011

For the second time in as many years, the crew (myself and Josh) have made the trek 1200 miles south from NYC to sunny Florida for the most important and exciting endurance race that takes place on United States soil: the 12 Hours of Sebring. So far we know one thing for certain, it's a hell of an adventure no matter how you slice it.

Pic post: Mercedes SL65 Black Series (with a side of Ferrari 458)

Ferrari 458

While the misses was getting her hair cut over at Vidal Sassoon this past Saturday, I decided to take a walk over to Park Avenue and 55th. The area is home to a few car dealerships, Ferrari being one of them, and I figured they might have something to drool over. They did...599, California, yadda yadda, and a super clean, super nice 458.

Ferrari 458

Now, I tend to be a purist for Ferrari colors (red always, yellow sometimes, rarely anything else) but in white this car was pretty jaw droppingly smooth looking.

It had absolutely nothing on what the next door neighbors had on display. This car stopped me in my tracks, and for a Mercedes to do that, well, it's got to be something special.

And special this car is apparently. The 2010 Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series. One of only 350 to be made (and this one was already sold), twin turbo V12, nearly 700hp and over 700 ft-lb of torque, lots of carbon fiber, and a very W-I-D-E body. 570 lbs lighter than the standard SL, and able to stop you in your tracks faster than any Lamborghini.

And take you to 60mph in under 4 seconds. While zero to 60 times are pretty worthless at telling the real performance of a car, it is impressive. And the car looks like it's worth all that and then some. I've never been a Mercedes man, but this car could convert me...

Video Post: Diesel power (wow)

Leave it to the Europeans to take drifting to the next level. Sheer insanity!

Ever get in one of those moods?

Okay, so this makes for the third non VW-oriented post in a row, but I'm a still a little inspired by the BMW Art cars. So inspired I went back again today and took more pictures. Even inspired enough to look for 320i cars for sale on eBay. Crazy right? Right. I mean what would I do with a 30 year old BMW? Not so many of those around either, it would appear, but there were a few E30 M3's for sale. One salvage title, one mint condition low mile example, and one with what might best be described as a grammar-impaired owner car, which may as well be a salvage title. Hmm. If only I could travel back in time...
So I decided to do a little digging and post up what might be one of the better DTM clips I've seen on the youtube. The E30 M3 is on my short-list of cars to own as soon as I have more cash, right behind (or is it in front?) of a 964 Carrera C2. At any rate, these things were nuts. Great fun, and always on the edge. Enjoy!
